Book an Author Launches Second Annual Back to School Campaign to Champion Authentic Storytelling in Classrooms Nationwide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
New York, August 5, 2025 — Book an Author, a mission-driven platform connecting schools with diverse literary talent, is proud to launch its second annual Back to School Campaign to champion authentic storytelling and promote equitable access to author visits for under-resourced schools.
Building on the momentum of last year’s successful campaign—which raised over $6,500 and supported more than 20 schools across the country—this year’s initiative aims to go even further, with a $10,000 fundraising goal and a brand-new offering of free author visits from award-winning writers.
Part 1: Community Fundraising Campaign
Under the theme “Join the Movement to Champion Authentic Storytelling”, Book an Author invites authors, supporters, and community members to help raise $10,000 between August 15 and September 30, 2025. Funds raised will subsidize author visits and books for schools that otherwise wouldn’t have access to literary programming.
“Last year, we proved that small donations from passionate communities could create outsized impact,” said Yobe Qiu, an educator-turned-Founder and CEO of Book an Author. “This year, we’re doubling down—more authors, more schools, and more stories that reflect the reality of our classrooms.”

Part 2: Free Author Visits for Under-Resourced Schools
Starting August 22, the Literacy Forum by Book an Author will host a series of complimentary author visits for selected schools. These visits are made possible by the generous contributions of four renowned children’s authors who are donating their time and talent:
- 🧪 Cheryl Johnson – Award-winning STEM author
- 📚 Carol McCloud – Bestselling author and educator (Bucket Filler series)
- 📖 Adam Wallace – New York Times bestselling author (How to Catch a… series)
- 🌈 Nicole Melleby – Critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ middle grade author

Why It Matters
Book an Author believes that every child deserves access to real authors and real stories that reflect their identity, community, and dreams. Author visits have been shown to boost literacy engagement, increase student confidence, and foster a lifelong love of reading.
By combining grassroots fundraising with direct author engagement, the Back to School Campaign aims to remove financial barriers and uplift both creators and classrooms.
